Teams have completed their registrations for the 2025 Toronto Metropolitan University Thrill Design Competition Open Qualifying stage with tremendous growth in the event.
A total of 32 teams have signed up, ten more than our 2024 competition, including nine new universities, and a team that previously competed and we’re delighted to welcome back!
During the Open Qualifying stage, through the month of May, teams work on a design to show what kind of skills they have, aiming for an invitation to challenge(s) they most want to tackle during our time-pressured Invitational on the eve of the IAAPA Expo, which we encourage Invitational participants to stay and attend.
The “OQ” is also useful for club development, helping new members grasp the academic relevance of this unique industry and building skills for the continuity of the club and leadership in future years, since a maximum of six members per team will attend the Invitational.
Eligible students at these 32 schools are able to join their OQ team in progress by contacting the team lead while the team is still working on their design, so there may be more participants from these schools. However, as of the close of team registration, these 32 teams comprise 378 students. The enthusiasm and optimism about themed entertainment design and engineering is not something this industry needs to worry about!
